From concept to 3D modelling

3D modelling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any surface of an object in 3D, using specialised software. In addition, the result is called a 3D model.

The computer-aided design (CAD) industry is based on 3D technology, essential for creating and developing a product or mechanical component.

Advantages of 3D modelling for industry

Today, 3D modelling offers many advantages to industry: closer cost estimation, reliability and safety, competitive advantage and specialised know-how.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Which formats will I receive the model in?

In exchange formats such as STEP, which open in any CAD software, and in STL for printing. In addition, if you need a specific format, tell us before we start.

Can you fix or improve a model I already have?

Yes. We can repair, simplify, adapt to another manufacturing process or complete an existing model.

Do I need to have drawings?

No. We work from ideas, photographs, measurements or the part itself.

Do you produce technical drawings?

Yes, with views, dimensions and tolerances, when manufacturing requires them.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

It depends on the complexity of the model and the number of revisions. Therefore, we send a proposal with price and deadline.

Do I own the rights to the model?

The model is made for you, from your idea or your part. In addition, we agree on ownership in the proposal.

Types

What type of 3D modelling you need

TypeWhat it isWhen to choose it
Parametric CADModel built with operations and dimensions that are easy to changeMechanical parts, products that will evolve, manufacturing
SurfacesContinuous freeform surfaces, with curvature controlProduct design, housings, organic shapes
Model for 3D printingClosed model, with thicknesses and tolerances designed for the processPrototypes and printed parts
From scanningCAD rebuilt over an existing partParts without drawings, reproduction (see Reverse engineering)
Process

From request to final file

1. Briefing: we understand the function of the part, the loads, the material and the manufacturing process
2. Modelling: we build the model with clear dimensions, radii and operations
3. Review with you: we show the model and adjust whatever is needed
4. Delivery: files in the agreed format, with a technical drawing if needed

What you can send us

Sketches, photographs, 2D drawings, measurements, an existing model that needs fixing, or a scan. In addition, you do not need a finished project: we help define it.

Manufacturing

3D modelling designed to be manufactured

A beautiful model that cannot be manufactured is of no use. In addition, we review the design taking the process into account: minimum thicknesses, corners, draft angles, print orientation, supports and assembly tolerances. Finally, it can save time and money on the first parts.
